The floor on bespoke kitchen cost

£45,000. That is where bespoke kitchen cost starts here. Below that we cannot make the thing we describe on the rest of this site, and we would rather say so than quote you a number we have to claw back later.

Figures on this page exclude VAT. They are indicative bands from jobs we have made, not a price list. The only number that matters is the fixed quotation with your drawings attached to it.

We publish these because the alternative is three meetings before anybody says a number, and that wastes your time more than ours.

Four bands

Cabinetry is priced by the metre of frame, so the length of the run does more to the number than any other single decision. The bands below assume in-frame construction, dovetailed drawer boxes, solid backs, birch ply carcases, full-extension soft-close runners and a hand-applied finish throughout. They exclude appliances and stone.

A whole-house programme is not nine kitchens. It is one set of drawings, one setting-out, one delivery and one fitting team, so it costs less per metre than the same work bought room by room.

Most of our work sits in the middle two bands. A ten-metre painted in-frame kitchen with an island, a larder cupboard, dovetailed drawer boxes throughout and a quartz worktop lands near £80,000 before appliances. That is the honest middle of what we do.

Where we sit

The English bespoke market runs from around £30,000 at the entry point to well past £100,000 at the top, and where a maker sits in that range says more about construction and finishing than about anything you can see in a photograph. Ask any of them what the carcase is, how the drawer boxes are made, and who applies the paint.

We start at £45,000. We are not the cheapest way to buy a handmade kitchen. What you get for the difference is a joinery house rather than a kitchen company: the same benches make our windows, staircases, panelling, libraries, gun rooms and yacht joinery, and we hold Grade I and Grade II* listed experience. If your kitchen has to sit against original fabric, that is what you are paying for.

The joinery house point is not a slogan. It means the moulding on your larder door can be ground to match the architrave in the hall, and that the same shop can make the window seat, the boot-room bench and the library to go with it.

What drives the number

Eight things move the price more than anything else. They are listed below with honest effects. Two of them, run length and worktop, will account for most of the variance between the quotation you expect and the one you get.

What is not included

Appliances, taps and sinks. We specify them, integrate them and fit them. You buy them, or we buy them for you at cost plus ten per cent for handling and warranty.

Stone and quartz worktops, supplied at cost plus templating and fitting, with the merchant’s invoice shown to you. Building work: walls, floors, screeds, structural openings. Mechanical and electrical: plumbing, gas, wiring, extraction ducting, underfloor heating. Plastering and decoration of the room itself. Flooring. VAT.

We will coordinate with your builder, architect, interior designer or main contractor, and we will attend site meetings. The coordination is included. Their work is not.

How we hold the price

The quotation is fixed before timber is cut. It does not move because oak moved, because the job took longer than we thought, or because a maker was ill.

It moves for one reason only: you change something after the cutting list is released. Then we price the change, show you the effect on the programme, and wait for you to say yes.

The design fee of £500 is the only money that leaves your hands before you have seen drawings, and it comes back off the first invoice.

Payment runs in three: 40 per cent on order, 50 per cent on delivery, 10 per cent when fitting is complete.
